Land Workshops

Land-based skills for survival and sustainability
We hold land-based skill workshops on our rural base in Southeastern Vermont. Join us as we learn alongside one another to build infrastructure that allows us to build community, conduct public events and hold performances.

Wilderness First Aid
With Solo and Ariel Temple
September 2nd-3rd, 2023
This workshop covered Solo's 16-hour Wilderness First Aid curriculum, with an added emphasis on consent, emotional first aid and antioppressive care. Held on our base in rural Vermont, the course taught wilderness protocols for backcountry traumatic injuries and medical emergencies. The landscape and new A-frame provided a wild and beautiful environment for learning these skills. It was a great experience and we're already planning next year's course - check back in the spring if you're interested in basic or advanced Wilderness First Aid.

A-Frame Shelter Construction
With Mountainsong Expeditions
April 23rd, 2023
Together we learned construction of a simple A-Frame shelter with Murphy Robinson of Mountainsong Expeditions. After this comprehensive one-day class, participants had the hands-on skills to build their own A-Frame shelter for $200 or less in materials. Murphy taught us how to select a site, fell and prepare spruce poles, lash together a frame, and lace on a waterproof tarp canopy.  We used only simple tools - ax, bowsaw, and drawknife - and emerged with a new teaching space for future courses.

Ax Skills Course
With Mountainsong Expeditions

April 22nd, 2023

Murphy Robinson of Mountainsong Expeditions taught basic ax skills in this day-long course. We learned together how to s
plit firewood with ease, make kindling safely, and clear fallen trees with ergonomic techniques that made our ax swings powerful while keeping our bodies strong. Murphy also covered ax selection, sharpening and care.
